NYSE and Blockchain.com Plan Round-the-Clock Tokenized Stock Trading

Key Insights:

  • The NYSE and Blockchain.com have outlined plans to provide round-the-clock trading access for tokenized U.S. equities and ETFs, pending regulatory sign-off.
  • This arrangement could potentially link more than 44 million verified accounts on Blockchain.com to the upcoming digital securities venue from the NYSE.
  • ICE Data Services is set to distribute crypto data provided by Blockchain.com, while Blockchain.com will incorporate market feeds from both the NYSE and ICE.

Bitcoin exchange-traded funds have regained attention as the price of BTC rebounded above $85,000, accompanied by strong capital inflows into U.S. spot funds.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs registered $999 million in net inflows on September 21, followed by an additional $714.7 million on September 22, pushing the combined two-day total past the $1.7 billion mark.

Meanwhile, another fund tied to Bitcoin has drawn notice for a different strategy. The NEOS Bitcoin High Income ETF (BTCI) distributes monthly payouts utilizing an approach that blends Bitcoin exchange-traded products, U.S. Treasury bills, and options.

Although its headline distribution rate climbs above 25%, that percentage should not be confused with total investment returns or traditional dividend yields.

NYSE and Blockchain.com Sign Tokenized Stock MOU

The memorandum of understanding establishes a prospective pathway for users of Blockchain.com to access tokenized securities through the digital platform of the NYSE. Blockchain.com notes that this collaboration could expand availability throughout its worldwide user base, which boasts over 44 million confirmed accounts.

The partnership encompasses tokenized editions of U.S. exchange-traded funds and exchange-listed equities. Because the MOU outlines a distribution framework instead of an immediate product roll-out, the organizations have not yet disclosed a launch schedule.

The timing of when the digital venue can commence offering these securities hinges entirely on regulatory green lights. This accord unfolds as financial institutions accelerate their initiatives concerning tokenized assets. Citi Institute forecasts a base-case valuation of $5.5 trillion for tokenized assets by 2030, and the digital equities initiative by the NYSE aligns squarely with that broader industry evolution.

Planned Market Targets 24/7 Stock Trading

When the NYSE first unveiled its tokenized securities platform in January 2026, the exchange indicated that the venue would facilitate continuous 24/7 trading of U.S.-listed equities and ETFs. Additional features will include fractional share transactions, funding via stablecoins, and instant settlement through tokenized capital.

The exchange engineered the marketplace to merge its Pillar matching engine with post-trade systems anchored in blockchain technology.

The new alliance with Blockchain.com aims specifically to bridge crypto-native participants into this forthcoming marketplace. Through tokenized shares, investors gain trading capabilities outside of standard U.S. market hours.

Furthermore, this architecture enables lower investment minimums via fractional ownership. Blockchain.com currently provides tokenized U.S. shares to qualified users located in specific European regions and other international territories.

Data Deal Connects Crypto and Equity Markets

In addition to the securities framework, the pact features a reciprocal market data agreement. ICE Data Services intends to supply its clients with crypto analytics and market data sourced from Blockchain.com, integrating digital asset metrics alongside conventional financial institutional feeds. ICE is the parent company of the NYSE and manages data services across global financial sectors.

Conversely, Blockchain.com plans to embed select data feeds from the NYSE and ICE directly into its application, supplying its user community with real-time equity market data within the crypto interface.

While this data sharing initiative facilitates information exchange across both digital and traditional financial spheres, it operates independently of the planned tokenized securities trading access.

Crypto Regulatory Approval Still Sets the Timeline

Regulatory authorization remains a prerequisite before the NYSE digital marketplace can launch these offerings. The partners have not yet specified which international jurisdictions will host the initial rollouts, as availability will depend on local securities regulations and clearances tied to the trading venue itself.

On September 17, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission enacted a five-year exemption covering select tokenized equity trading operations. Under this regulatory framework, eligible tokenized shares must afford investors the exact same shareholder rights as traditional equities.

Synthetic instruments that merely track price movements without granting genuine ownership rights are excluded. Full deployment of the broader platform envisioned by the NYSE also remains subject to regulatory oversight.

By securing the agreement with Blockchain.com, the NYSE adds another distribution channel to its tokenized securities initiative, having previously partnered with entities like Securitize and tZERO to develop digital asset infrastructure and on-chain settlement solutions.
