Nvidia Shares Rise Following Dimon’s $1T AI Spending Forecast

Key Insights

  • Nvidia stock closed at $227.38 on Monday, recovering nearly 9% from its Sept. 14 low.
  • JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon expects global AI capital spending to exceed $1 trillion in 2027.
  • Nvidia’s chart puts its $236.54 high back in focus before any potential move toward $250.

Semiconductor shares saw fresh upward momentum on Sept. 21 as renewed excitement surrounding artificial intelligence helped fuel a continued recovery for Nvidia stock.

NVDA finished the session at $227.38, gaining 2.3% after hitting an intraday peak of $228.50. The shares have now bounced back by almost 9% relative to their Sept. 14 low of $208.93.

This upward correction unfolds against a broader landscape of rapidly expanding investments in AI infrastructure. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has forecast that annual AI capital expenditure could surpass $1 trillion in the coming year, providing an additional benchmark for data-center funding expectations.

Jamie Dimon Makes a $1 Trillion AI Prediction

The chief executive of JPMorgan remains convinced that the artificial intelligence boom has further room to develop. In a recent remark, he stated that major hyperscale players such as Microsoft, Google, Meta Platforms, and Amazon will dedicate over $1 trillion to the data center sector next year.

Such an increase represents a substantial leap from the $750 billion layout planned for the current year. This perspective aligns with other recent forecasts, including a widely noted study by PWC estimating that overall spending could expand by $32 trillion by the year 2050.

This surge in expenditure is decidedly favorable for Nvidia due to its prominent position supplying top-tier chips to the AI market. All four of America’s tech giants utilize Nvidia hardware, generating roughly half of the chipmaker’s total revenue.

Nvidia is currently capitalizing on robust demand for its Blackwell processors. Over the next few years, the majority of expansion is expected to be propelled by Vera Rubin chips, which offer even higher performance than Blackwell.

Simultaneously, the firm aims to harness the rising popularity of AI agents by releasing its own CPUs. These processors are projected to begin producing meaningful financial returns over the upcoming quarters.

Jamie Dimon’s comments arrived during a period when underlying anxieties regarding the AI industry persist. Prominent leaders such as Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and SpaceX’s Elon Musk have all issued warnings concerning the sector’s trajectory and advocated for a moderated pace of growth.

Nvidia’s Revenue Growth to Continue

Performance metrics from Nvidia’s latest financial disclosure demonstrate that corporate expansion continued unabated through the second quarter. Revenue climbed 106% during the period to reach $96.2 billion, with the data center division alone accounting for $89 billion.

This growth is particularly striking given that it occurred with virtually no significant contribution from mainland China, typically one of the most vital regions for AI technology. Furthermore, the enterprise anticipates that its Chinese operations will yield no substantial revenue throughout the current year.

Wall Street analysts maintain an overwhelmingly bullish outlook on the corporation’s shares and top-line expansion, a trajectory that would accelerate further should Jamie Dimon’s forecasts materialize. Consensus projections indicate that annual revenue will surge by 90% this year to exceed $411 billion, with actual figures potentially climbing as high as $425 billion.

During its most recent earnings call, Nvidia estimated that revenue for the following year will top $700 billion, marking an increase of over 70% compared to the current period. Profitability is similarly projected to climb, with GAAP earnings per share anticipated to reach $9.31, up sharply from the $4.70 recorded last year.

These gains coincide with an increasingly attractive valuation for the firm, which currently sports a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 22.

Nvidia Stock Price Technical Analysis

Daily chart indicators reveal that NVDA stock has rallied significantly over recent months, climbing from a March low of $164 up to $227. After briefly retreating to a $209 floor on September 14, the equity has since staged a recovery.

The share price continues to hold above both its 50-day and 100-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA), signaling that buyers remain firmly in command. Additionally, momentum gauges including the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and the MACD show persistent upward trajectories.

Consequently, the equity is well-positioned to extend its gains, with sights set on the psychological threshold of $250. This advance will gain confirmation should the price successfully break above its historic peak of $236.
