Key Insights:
- Eligible U.S. retail customers can now request IPO shares through Coinbase prior to the start of public market trading.
- Oura initiates the rollout featuring a $2.2 billion offering and a potential valuation of $15.62 billion.
- COIN shares climbed more than 5% as market participants tracked $200 support alongside Clear Street’s $224 target.
Coinbase stock moved higher on Sept. 21 following the cryptocurrency exchange’s introduction of initial public offering access for eligible U.S. retail users.
The rollout kicks off with smart-ring manufacturer Oura, which intends to price its shares between $40 and $44 ahead of its Nasdaq debut under the ticker symbol OURA. Coinbase users are able to submit IPO allocation requests straight from the mobile application before public trading begins.
COIN shares advanced roughly 5.4% during Monday’s trading session as the firm continued to build out its broader Everything Exchange initiative.
Coinbase Opens Retail IPO Access With Oura
Qualifying users can now utilize the Coinbase mobile application to engage with active IPO offerings. The process allows participants to choose an offering, fund their accounts, and place a conditional share request.
While the IPO order book stays open, participants retain the ability to modify or withdraw their requests. Should the final price surpass a user’s chosen limit, a new request may be required.
When the order book shuts, Coinbase distributes the available shares in accordance with supply and demand dynamics. Users might secure their complete request, a partial allotment, or miss out entirely.
Oura serves as the initial enterprise featured on the new platform. The smart-ring maker and its existing shareholders are bringing 50 million shares to market, priced at $40 to $44 apiece.
At the upper bound of that pricing interval, the IPO stands to generate up to $2.2 billion. Such an offering would also assign Oura a fully diluted valuation close to $15.62 billion.
Oura is scheduled to list on Nasdaq under the OURA ticker, with Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan acting as lead underwriters. The company posted $1.21 billion in revenue across the nine-month window concluding June 30, marking a 74% surge compared to the same timeframe a year prior.
Coinbase Uses Holding Periods in IPO Allocation System
To discourage prompt liquidations of newly assigned IPO shares, Coinbase has established specific guidelines. The allocation algorithm favors investors who demonstrate a greater propensity for maintaining their positions over the long term.
Participants who divest their assigned shares inside a 30-day window risk losing eligibility for subsequent IPO offerings for 60 days. Continued short-term selling behavior can similarly diminish their likelihood of securing shares in future launches.
“Our allocation algorithm prioritizes investors who believe in what they’re purchasing for the long haul,” Coinbase said.
The IPO functionality operates via Coinbase Capital Markets, the organization’s FINRA-registered broker-dealer. Meanwhile, Apex Clearing manages the execution, clearing, and custody protocols for the distributed shares.
Rather than functioning as an IPO underwriter, Coinbase operates as a selling-group member. It gathers user requests before forwarding them to Apex for final execution.
This product broadens Coinbase’s repertoire of securities offerings outside of digital assets. The company has previously rolled out equities, options, index products, and private-market derivatives.
Prior pre-IPO perpetual contracts provided certain investors with price exposure to entities like SpaceX, though those instruments did not grant direct ownership of private equity.
The fresh IPO service differs because successful applicants obtain authentic securities directly at the offering price. Coinbase intends to incorporate additional IPOs as its broker-dealer secures allocations from forthcoming transactions.
COIN Stock Forecast As Traders Watch $200 and $224
Clear Street has reaffirmed its Buy recommendation for Coinbase while raising its price objective from $204 to $224. This adjusted target offers an additional benchmark for COIN equity following its breakthrough past the $200 mark.
From a chart analysis perspective, the $200–$204 band remains a critical near-term threshold. Sustaining values above that bracket would keep COIN trading past a closely watched psychological marker.
A continued breakout beyond the recent trading range could draw renewed attention to the $224 level. Nevertheless, analyst projections remain forecasts and offer no guarantees regarding future market outcomes.
On the flip side, the $190 to $194 interval acts as the closest support floor. A decisive slip beneath that band could undermine the current price framework and expose lower marks.
